Fenian Currencies

Image
TALKING MONEY! Because even fictional characters can't get by without the clinking and folding stuff! Here are the main currencies used in my universe. FEN and SHEN – The currency of Viria, fen being the larger units and shen being the smaller ones. LIVATI – Widely used throughout mainland Varathusia by Carpathians, Varahs and Par-Varahs alike. RYNDI (plural RYNDII) — Varagan currency, widely used throughout the Varago Islands.  Varagans will also use livati on the Varathusian mainland. SHEKELS – Sartorian currency. Tribal Sartorians prefer to barter goods and services rather than using money. Shekels are only used in the settled areas of the planet.   CREDITS – Virtual currency used widely on Mondias, Yttria, Varathusia and Malvania by means of an electronic chip. There are such things as credit coins and banknotes but these are only used in smaller or more primitive communities.

Life Expectancy

Image
Life expectancy varies between the different planets, due to the climate and geographical conditions of the planet and the social structure in place there.   Life expectancy is greatly enhanced in beings who are bonded with crystals, and also in those linked to the Cyad Command Grid, who can live up to 120 standard years. Mondias – Between 70 and 100 standard years Yttria – Between 70 and 100 standard years Malvania – Between 100 and 150 standard years Varathusia – Between 100 and 120 standard years Sartoria – Between 100 and 150 standard years Viria – Between 120 and 200 standard years

Fenian Society and Culture

Image
All cultures except those on Mondias and Yttria place great importance on family matters.   In bygone days families, clans and tribes tended to be more nomadic and combative in nature, but in more recent times, many of them have settled and learned to live together in a more harmonious way. Mondias and Yttria Physical Appearance : Mondians and Yttrians typically have pale skins but their other characteristics such as hair and eye colour, height and build tend to vary.   Mondians have distinctive ridges above their eyebrows but Yttrians lack this feature.   Hair is mostly worn short on both worlds.   Anything below collar-length is unusual.   Men tend to be clean-shaven but a few have small moustaches and/or beards.   Clothing is of a practical and utilitarian nature.   There is very little distinction between work-wear and leisure-wear. Society : Mondias enforces Cyad Law throughout the entire planet but on Yttria, there is a meldi...

Fenian Time and Calendar References

Image
Fenian Time References Time is counted differently within the Fenian Galaxy.  All planets use the same units and I haven't gone into the scientific aspects such as planetary size, orbit, tilt, rotations, etc.  In order to keep it simple, I work on the principle that all the planets have the same amount of daylight and night hours.  Sci-fi purists will cringe at this but since such matters are never relevant to the novels, I rely on readers to suspend their disbelief over the lack of hard science. These are the basic units for measuring time: 100 minutes = 1 hour 10 hours = half a day   (The day is split into two sections – ten hours of the daytime and ten hours of the night, sometimes referred to as morning and evening hours.  Afternoon may also be mentioned, but usually only for the second through to fifth hours of the second half of the day) 10 weeks = 1 month 10 months = 1 year   Fenian Calendar References ...
