Elfridah Wynghavaan (AKA Effie) is a Sartorian taxi driver who lives and works in a slum district of Milgramcyad, the capital city of Mondias, during the time of the Great Invasion.  She is the sister of Marsalis and best friend of Matilda Grimwald.  She is cheerful and friendly but slightly reserved in her ways.  She met Sheraleen Conder through Matilda.  She became friends with Sheraleen.  

Marsalis Wynghavaan is a Sartorian taxi driver who lives and works in a slum district of Milgramcyad, the capital city of Mondias, during the time of the Great Invasion.  He is tough and streetwise but also caring and protective of those he loves.  He is the partner/lover of Matilda Grimwald.  Through her, he met Sheraleen Conder.  He and Sheraleen then became friends.

Matilda Grimwald (AKA Tilly) is a Sartorian taxi driver who lives and works in a slum district of Milgramcyad, the capital city of Mondias, during the time of the Great Invasion. She has a cheerful demeanour and a generous nature.  She is physically strong and streetwise.  A chance encounter with Sheraleen Conder (later Mulvaney, then Donovan) led to the two of them becoming good friends.  

Name: Edwina Helvellyan Origin: Malvanian  Edwina Helvellyan is a Malvanian internee whose mother and grandmother were abducted by the Cyad Confederacy during the Great Invasion.  She stowed away on a Cyad ship with the intention of finding her mother and grandmother.  She is training to be a healer.  She also takes a great interest in politics and history.  She has a calm demeanour and can be somewhat reticent, especially around people she doesn't know well or doesn't feel comfortable with.  She and Sheraleen Conder (later Sheraleen Mulvaney, then Sheraleen Donovan) became good friends during their time in a Cyad correctional school (prison).  

Name: Melanie Conder Origin: Virian Gypsy Melanie Conder is the younger sister of Sheraleen Conder (later known as Sheraleen Mulvaney, then Sheraleen Donovan).  She is fun-loving, somewhat rebellious and full of confidence.  She claims to be ambitious but lacks direction.  She has a cruel streak and can often say hurtful things.  She and Sheraleen do not get along very well.  They have many arguments.

Name: Nevyn Barteleyev (original birth name: Nevyn Horaath) Origin: Malvanian  Nevyn Barteleyev is a Malvanian thief, mercenary and computer expert.  He grew up among the Silent Order of Thieves, where he learned his dubious trade.  He is arrogant, ambitious and financially motivated.  He has a perpetually cynical and jaded demeanour and lacks sympathy or empathy.  Unfortunate and desperate circumstances led him to seek employment with the Carpathians.  He ended up working for Lord Claudio Scalani at the Geryalah enclave.

Name: Gheran Perdemond Origin: Malvanian  Gheran Perdemond is a sorcerer who studies at the prestigious Donovan Institute.  He specialises in computer science.  He is intelligent and eager to please but not overly ambitious.  He has a quiet and reticent demeanour.  He can become nervous and uncomfortable when meeting new people or having to adapt to new situations.  He is a good friend of Lady Anwyn Menehari.

 Silent Guardian sorcerer   Silent Guardian sorceress The Silent Guardians are members of the Geheimsvaak (AKA Secret People) who live in remote areas of Malvania.  They are dedicated to maintaining the vast underground repositories of the Geheimsvaak where their whisper jars are stored.  Due to the delicate nature of their work, they are required to swear a vow of silence and only communicate via telepathy.  Each Silent Guardian has a symbiotic relationship with one of the serpent vines, They begin their training at the age of ten and spend the rest of their lives in the caverns among the vines and whisper jars.  When they take their vow of silence and merge with their vine, they give up the names they were known by before they undertook silent service.  They recognise each other by their energy signatures instead of using names.
