Character name: Lord Andreas Alano Cesario (AKA the Chimera Obscura)

Character race: Human - Carpathian Spy Master (Ascended Master)

Character appearance: Short, thin slight build, light brown skin, waist length black hair, usually tied up with a piece of old bandage, long droopy moustache. Usually wears shabby checked suits with old brown sandals. Sometimes disguises himself as a beggar.  Several tattoos, including a special one on his back.

Character personality: Wildly eccentric and unpredictable. Sly, devious, wicked sense of humour, often self-depreciating. Changes subject abruptly in conversation. In private, he is a loving husband and father, devoted to his extended family.

Family: Direct descendant of the Warrior God Martius, through the Entrevi and Cesario families. Married to Anwyn, has five children, two of whom he adopted.

Strengths: Spy Master, adept at breaking and entering, climbing, picking locks, setting explosives, administering poisons, computer hacking. Ascended Master who can take mortal form when he chooses. (For the purposes of this story, he will be in mortal form).

Weaknesses: Generous to a fault. Cannot walk past a beggar without giving money.

Likes: Making and breaking codes, picking locks, playing the flute, doing conjuring tricks, telling jokes, entertaining children.

Dislikes: Cruelty, slavery, injustice and intolerance. Anything or anyone threatening his extended family.

Character name: Lady Anwyn Lyandra Menehari-Cesario (AKA Anni)

Character race: Human – Carpathian Varathusian (Ascended Master but can take mortal form when she chooses.  For the purpose of this story, she is in mortal form)

Character appearance: Short stature, medium build, muscular and wiry.  Medium-brown skin, long dark hair styled in dreadlocks, dark eyes, wide mouth, slightly pointed chin.  Lots of tattoos, including a special one on her back. Attractive in a fierce, untamed way.  Age – Indeterminate but looks to be late thirties or early forties.

Character personality: Can seem very intimidating.  Fiercely protective of her loved-ones.  Extremely passionate in everything she does.  Playful sense of humour and can be very caring and motherly.

Family: Large extended family.  Married to Lord Andreas Alano Cesario, they have five children and many grandchildren.

Strengths: Sorcery (Vyrdigaan Master level), very skilled at martial arts.  A natural leader, experienced in politics, espionage and reading people.  

Weaknesses: Gets homesick for the desert and hates leaving it for more than a few days at a time.  Very hot temper and sometimes has a cruel streak.

Likes: Her family, her work, her home in the desert, teaching new recruits.

Dislikes: Bullying, injustice, prejudice, wearing clothes, especially formal dressing.

Character name: Fitzgerald Hunt (Gerald)

Appearance: Dark haired, clear eyes, early twenties, scruffy, tall, broad-shouldered, has a brand of a hand on his neck that he hates talking about.

Personality: Can be rough with people he doesn't like and rather annoying. Quick with a joke or snarky remark. Doesn't like to lose. He has a peculiar sense of mercy and won't kill those he thinks deserve to live.

Family: Married to Elsa. He left his home country and his family behind.

Influences: A desire to be a knight at an early age left him with a strange sense of the knight's code. The forced murder of his mentor scarred him and hardened him.

Abilities: Extremely skilled fighter in all manners of weaponry.

Strengths: Good at fighting, has a good amount of money to his name, loyal to people he cares about, oddly merciful.

Weaknesses: No tact, dislikes arrogance (except in himself), the exact opposite of a diplomat.

Likes: Fighting, money, Elsa.

Dislikes: A lot of things, mostly Morgan.

Character name: Elsa Silvereye (Hunt, though she doesn't use that surname)

Character race: Human.

Character appearance: Twenty-one years-old, a little more than five feet tall, very skinny, long, curly red hair, silver eyes. Extremely attractive. Does little to accentuate that fact.

Character personality: Difficult to get alone with. She tends to brush other people off and doesn't like to talk about her past. She doesn't like being the center of attention or getting told she's doing something wrong. Pushes aside her own feelings for the sake of the people she cares about and can be annoyingly unemotional. Oddly enough, she's a pacifist--she won't take a life.

Family: Her parents were murdered by the former King of Vordelle. Elaine is her twin sister and Gerald is her husband.

Influences: She ran away from the castle (Zor) of Vordelle after her parents' executions. She and her sister lived on the streets alone and had to resort to thievery to survive.

Abilities: The best thief in all of Vordelle and possibly the world. Also skilled at swordplay, having been taught by her father at a young age.

Strengths: Reliable, true to her word, loyal to people she cares about, refuses to kill. Great if you want a thief.

Weaknesses: Stubborn, prideful, arrogant, likes to work alone, will go to great lengths to avoid people she doesn't like.

Likes: Taking care of her sister, being the best at something, proving people wrong, stealing.

Dislikes: Having to get Gerald out of trouble, relying on others, people who think she's weak because she's a woman, losing, getting told she's wrong, people who kill others.

Character name: Elaine Silvereye Lightshield

Character appearance: Same as Elsa, except she's a little rounder than her twin and about five feet tall. Less striking than Elsa.

Character personality: Sweet, sincere, rather naive. She dislikes stealing. Would do anything to protect Elsa and the rest of her family. Elaine feels bad for Gerald when Elsa starts being unkind to him.

Family: Parents are deceased. Twin sister Elsa, husband Daren, infant son Joseph.

Influences: The same as Elsa's. Now, as Queen of Vordelle, she struggles to prove that she can be a lady and that she's not just a thief.

Abilities: Passable thief.

Strengths: People tend to like her more than Elsa. A good people person, an excellent Queen, good mother and wife, good at getting people to get along. Level-headed.

Weaknesses: Naive, not physically strong, will do anything to protect her family.

Likes: Peace, being with her family, people, not having to steal to survive.

Dislikes: Stealing, criminals, mentions of her parents, when Elsa refuses to get along with people, when things go wrong.

Character name: King Daren Lightshield

Character appearance: Average height, bulky, early twenties, curly, golden-blond hair, golden eyes. Handsome. Has a rather childish face.

Character personality: Likes to be personable and nice, but being raised by an egotistical, insane king has made that a little difficult. He struggles to control his arrogance and, while trying to be a good person, he usually ends up believing just about anything anybody tells him.

Family: Both his parents and his sister are deceased. Married to Elaine with an infant son, Joseph.

Influences: Losing his entire family has made him quieter and more sombre than he used to be.

Abilities: Skilled swordsman and good leader.

Strengths: Strong diplomatic and tactical mind, good fighter, cares deeply for those he considers his friends.

Weaknesses: Naive, can be tricked easily, arrogant, thinks he's entitled because he's royalty.

Likes: Being king, his family, his friends, beating back the darkness.

Dislikes: Thinking about the dead members of his family, remembering the price, showing his emotions, being tricked.

Character name: Queen River Meer

Character race: Human.

Character appearance: Sixteen years old, curly brown hair past her shoulder blades, big brown eyes. Plain-looking, her eyes are too big for her face. Has a sweet, childish look to her.

Character personality: Sweet, innocent. Destroyed her voice with a misfired spell in her youth--the spell she accidentally cast after she killed her brother in an argument. Also accidental. Rather naive, struggles to behave like a queen.

Family: Her parents and her brother are deceased.

Influences: Erased her memories of her early years when she killed her brother. Recently lost her healing magic to Brent Drenlin, since it was his to begin with. They ended up using a third party's powers to split the magic in order to keep Brent from injuring himself when he heals.

Abilities: Powerful combat magic. Her healing magic was weakened after she returned some of it to its original owner.

Strengths: Can be deceivingly stubborn. Powerful magic that she's slowly teaching herself to maintain control of. People tend to like her.

Weaknesses: Uncertain about being a ruler, uncontrollable magic that activates when she's stressed, naive, innocent.

Likes: Jake, the Drenlins, Terra, people who stay by her side, loyalty, magic.

Dislikes: Her family, her own magic, people who threaten the people she cares about, evil.

Character name: Apollo Lightbringer

Character race: Healer. Essentially human but with powerful healing and light magic.

Character appearance: Extremely tall and skinny, messy blond hair, pale skin and dark blue eyes. Early twenties (same age as Morgan). Always wears white robes and carries a white staff. Tan gloves.

Character personality: Deceivingly quiet and gentle among strangers. Actually has a strong sarcastic sense of humour and enjoys teasing Morgan. He is devoted to his life as a healer and will put his own life on the line for the sake of another. The Chosen One of the Lightshield, which grants him powerful light magic. He tries not to tap into it much, since doing so could lead to him accidentally "purifying" the darkness from Morgan--which would end up killing the mage.

Family: His parents were executed by the king. His aunt and two uncles all had dark magic in them, but none of that touched Apollo. Morgan is his cousin.

Influences: He's known for a long time that Morgan's parents killed his own parents, but he cares for his cousin and is the only one who can bring him out of darkness when he falls into it. The two share a close, brotherly relationship despite their differing natures.

Abilities: Very powerful light magic and a good healer.

Strengths: Devoted to his friends, good to have around when you need him, handy for getting rid of darkness.

Weaknesses: Set in his ways, can be stubborn, doesn't like to do the wrong thing even if it's for the right reason.

Likes: Tranquillity, when everything is neat (he's a neat-freak), going on adventures with Morgan.

Dislikes: Morgan's friendship with Andreas (he feels slighted), when things go wrong, sloppiness, arguing, darkness, crime.

Character name: Morgan Shadowbinder

Character race: Human dark wizard —Vordellan

Character appearance: Short, looks rotund but is actually now muscular. Has short raven hair and one green eye and one red eye. Middle aged.

Character personality: Dark, brooding, no longer the cheerful person he was. If he had trust issues before, he really has them now. His end-goal is difficult to determine.

Influences: Apollo was assassinated a few years before, leading to Morgan giving in to the darkness inside. He eventually regained some control, but was physically marked by the red eye.

Family: Has no family. Never married.

Strengths: Extremely powerful magic.

Weaknesses: Hard to read, dark, brooding, slow to trust, quick to anger.

Likes: Solitude. Became a recluse after Apollo's death. He still harbours a deep love for food.

Dislikes: Just about everything.

Character name: Selonicus Linderies

Character race: Human – Half-Malvanian, half-Virian (Has lived several lifetimes but never reveals details)

Character appearance: Tall slender build, pale skin, long greyish-black hair, short stubbly beard.  Dresses in colourful mismatched clothing.  Looks to be in his late fifties or early sixties.

Character personality: Quietly spoken, stoical demeanour, rarely displaying any noticeable emotions.  Can seem aloof and detached at times. Very secretive.  Has a wickedly sarcastic sense of humour. 

Family: Both parents were mixed race – half-Virian, half-Malvanian.  He was raised in the infamous Elzhin enclave on Malvania.  (He was Anwyn’s first husband and the father of Loro but in this story, we meet an earlier version of him before he knew Anwyn)

Strengths: Expert healer, Vyrdigaan Master, extensive knowledge of alchemy, crystal theory and telepathy.  Keeps calm in a crisis. 

Weaknesses: Doesn’t work well with others.  Has abandonment issues and finds it hard to form meaningful relationships.

Likes: Research, healing, teaching students, meditation.

Dislikes: Injustice, oppression, authority figures, long-term commitments.

Magic: 8 (but has a tendency to think he is stronger than that)

Character name: Rachel Andric

Character race: Human

Character appearance: Only about five feet tall, slim, with golden-blonde curls of hair and rather strange clear-blue eyes. Wears a red cloak. She rarely smiles around strangers and can seem intense.

Character personality: It depends. Around people she knows and likes, she can be sarcastic, teasing, and smiles a lot. Around strangers, however, she becomes withdrawn and quiet. She will fight to help anyone who needs it, however, even at risk of her own life.

Family: Her entire family is dead. Her parents, Philip and Miriam, and her brother, Ewan, were killed.

Influences: She lived alone for five years in total solitude. She enjoys it on occasion but has a fear of being abandoned now.

Abilities: A passable swordswoman and commands the power of Morpheus, god of sleep and dreams. She can enter someone's dreams and see them as well as dream them for the person. She can also put a person to sleep with a touch. The more she uses the latter power, the more exhausted she gets.

Strengths: Loyal to her friends, good, an undeniable leader when the situation calls for it.

Weaknesses: Would do anything, even die, if it gave her even the slightest chance of saving someone. Has a crippling fear and hatred of blood.

Likes: Peace, calm, when things aren't blowing up all around her, being left alone by strangers.

Dislikes: Strangers, blood, evil, the unjust.

Character appearance: Since she's a shapeshifter, her appearance varies. Her true appearance is long white hair, chalky-white skin marked with black lines and curves all over her body that stop at her neck, pure black eyes. Tall, athletic. Late teens to early twenties.

Character personality: Playful, teasing, but deadly. Never seems to take anything seriously until she's putting a knife between your ribs. A space pirate. Pretends not to care about anything. Runs from her past. Has a soft spot for hopeless cases like Don Collego. You know she's serious if she refers to you by your first name.

Family: She abandoned her family on Vold years ago. The only one she claims a relationship with is her cousin, Sareen--probably just to annoy her.

Influences: Ran off to become a space pirate and inadvertently led to a city's destruction on Vold. She refuses to kill Sareen, no matter how much her cousin wants to kill her.

Abilities: Can shape-shift into any humanoid figure. Strong intellect, fast reflexes, skilled in numerous weapons.

Strengths: Fighting, infiltrating, stealing, basically any kind of crime. Good liar.

Weaknesses: Pretends she doesn't feel emotions. Doesn't quite know when to stop. A mistake led to a slave's brand on her neck that she conceals with her shape-shifting abilities.

Likes: Committing crimes, tormenting Sareen, giving people random nicknames, making fun of Don Collego, money.

Dislikes: Authority, authority figures, nobility, royalty, the wealthy, slave traders.

Magic: She can only shape-shift, so 3.

Character race: Human – Half-Malvanian, half-Yttrian

Character appearance: Tall, thin build.  Pale skin, pale grey eyes and white hair, shaved at the sides, but long on top and at the back.  Wears a dark grey business suit when working, grey robes when relaxing.  Appears to be around fifty years old.

Character personality: Calm, stoical, rarely displays any discernible emotions.  Astute businessman, devious game-player.

Family: Unknown.  It is rumoured that his father originally came from one of the Malvanian sorcerers’ enclaves.

Strengths: Highly intelligent, good at reading people (rumoured to have telepathy and empathy skills), very adaptable to different situations.

Weaknesses: Motivated by greed and ego, lacks compassion. Has a cruel streak.

Likes: Material wealth, good social standing.

Dislikes: Anything which harms his reputation or causes him to lose out on making a profit.

Magic: Unknown. Rumoured to have sorcery powers but no-one knows for sure.

Character race: Human - Malvanian

Character appearance: Fairly tall, skinny, looks malnourished and cadaverous.  Deathly pallor with purple veins pulsing on his forehead.  Dark hair, slicked back with oil.  Wears dark suits underneath black robes.

Character personality: Difficult to get to know, gives nothing away.  Harsh, cruel and controlling.

Family: From one of the Malvanian sorcerers’ enclaves.  Cut all ties many years ago and insists that he has no living relatives.

Strengths: Intelligent, has some medical knowledge, well-versed in law (he also works as a lawyer for the Cyad State Legal Bureau), analytical scientific mind.

Weaknesses: Plagued by several illnesses which he tries hard to hide, not as intelligent as he likes to think, obsessed with his research.

Likes: Genetic research, finding new subjects for his experiments, tricking vulnerable people into volunteering for his experiments.

Dislikes: Healthy people, anyone who enjoys life, anyone who disrupts his schemes.

Magic: 4, but has forgotten most of his training and finds it difficult to use his powers.

Character appearance: Totally non-descript.  Average height, average build, fair skin, sandy hair kept in short military crop.  Never seen out of uniform.

Character personality: Lacks personality.  Totally dedicated to serving the Cyad in his capacity as Governor of a Cyad Correctional School.  Stickler for rules and will enforce them by any means necessary.

Family: Never knew his parents.  Cyad Citizens rarely meet their birth parents and are brought up in state orphanages.

Strengths: Physically fit and strong, expert military and tactical knowledge, good at motivating his staff, takes pride in his career achievements.

Weaknesses: Needs structure in his life.  Has no interests outside his job.

Likes: Running an orderly establishment, obedience, efficiency, tidiness.

Dislikes: Anyone who flouts the rules or disrupts his routine.

Character race: Human (Ascended Master and Vyrdigaan Mage)

Character appearance: Tall, thin, pale skin, piercing green eyes, blue-black shoulder-length hair oiled and tied back in a neat tail, small neat beard. Mostly wears black sorcerer's robes.

Character personality: Can appear very aloof and detached. Loves to be mysterious and rarely tells the whole story. Extremely manipulative. Very formal and disciplined, rarely loses control.

Family: From the esteemed Fendor family of sorcerers.

Strengths: Master Sorcerer. Ascended Master who can take mortal form when he chooses. Rumoured to be a Chronomage, though he denies it. The full extent of his abilities is unknown but rumoured to be approaching those of a God.

Weaknesses: Unapproachable, lacks empathy. Not a great conversationalist unless a person intrigues him. Easily bored. Very cynical.

Likes: Teaching students. Loves Mazia/Malia, one of Andreas's granddaughters.

Dislikes: Most non-sorcerers, anyone who disrupts the natural balance of order within the multiverse.

Character appearance: Short stature, pale skin.  Has green eyes and dark hair cut in a severe military crop.  Wears standard Cyad uniform consisting of black tunic with red trim and red star logos on the epaulettes, black trousers and black boots.  In her early twenties.

Character personality: Eager to please, slightly nervous due to the fact that she has not long been in her job. 

Family: Mother from Viria, father from Mondias. 

Strengths: Excellent language skills, a quick learner and very intuitive.  

Weaknesses: Not physically strong, easily intimidated.

Likes: Reading, computers, learning new languages, hiking and camping.

Dislikes: Loud people, unfamiliar situations, spending too much time indoors.

Character personality: Quietly spoken, calm and determined.  Very secretive but kindly, will always help out someone in need. 

Family: Unknown, due to his typical Losinthan reticence

Strengths: Skilled sorcerer, excellent language skills.  Good knowledge of history and politics.  Stronger than he looks.  Passable at martial arts and weaponry. 

Weaknesses: Can seem aloof and detached.  Rarely shows emotions.

Character race: Human - Carpathian

Character appearance: Fairly tall, slim build.  Light brown skin, dark eyes and dark brown hair oiled and bound in a neat tail.  Usually wears expensive suits, occasionally dresses more casually.

Character personality: Controlling, devious, self-centred.  Rarely shows emotions.  Enjoys manipulating people.

Family: The notorious Auguiste family, cast out of the Inner Circle by the Scalani/Menehari alliance many years ago, long before Ambrogino was born.

Strengths: Wealthy and influential, seasoned political game-player.  Astute businessman.  Charismatic personality, good at getting what he wants.

Weaknesses: Not physically strong, has a tendency to be vain, materialistic and selfish.

Likes: The finer things in life, expanding his business empire, being in control.

Dislikes: Non-Carpathians, especially poor people, anyone who gets in the way of his ambitions, losing control.

Character name: Lord Vedat Degurmin

Character race: Human - Varagan

Character appearance: Very tall, heavily built, light brown skin, long wavy hair usually worn loose, droopy moustache, facial piercings.  Has jewels set into his teeth which contain protection against sorcery.  Tattoos on chest and arms.  Some of his tattoos are also protection against sorcery.  Mostly goes around bare-chested, dressed only in black baggy trousers and sandals.

Character personality: Cheerful and extremely talkative.  Has the typical earthy Varagan sense of humour.  Expects hard work from his employees but will reward their efforts generously.

Family: The esteemed Degurmin family, specialist dealers in textiles and the clothing industry.  Varagan society is largely male-dominated.  They do not marry.  Most Varagan men own several concubines, as well as house slaves and employees who help out with running their businesses.  Varagans make no distinction between family and business.  While they regard their slaves, employees and children as possessions, they are usually very caring and generous.  Hard work and loyalty are expected, but most slaves and employees have a very comfortable and privileged lifestyle.

Strengths: Reasonably good at martial arts and fighting with melee weapons.  Astute businessman with good social skills. Good judge of character.

Weaknesses: Can seem arrogant at times.  Finds non-Varagans hard to understand.

Likes: His family, socialising, entertaining, making business deals. 

Dislikes: Bullies, anyone who threatens his family or friends, people who won’t try to understand Varagan ways.  (Varagans have a habit of touching a person on the arm or shoulder when conversing with them; it’s part of their culture and a way to find out who is trustworthy and who isn’t)

Character race: Human - Malvanian

Character appearance: Tall, more muscular than the average Malvanian.  Pale skin, long dark hair usually worn in braids.  When teaching his students, he wears traditional black robes, but for his wild nights out, he prefers to dress in women’s clothing.

Character personality: Intense, can be overly formal and serious at times, although he has a rebellious streak.  Quietly assertive.  Loyal and loving.

Family: Little is known about them.  He fell out with his parents during a rebellious stage in his early teens.  They disapprove of his homosexual nature.  He is married to Nye Halloran and they have an adopted daughter, Yadzah.

Strengths: Skilled healer, very knowledgeable and resourceful.  Usually polite and diplomatic, but can be brutally honest at times.  Expert in crystal theory, telepathy and martial arts.

Weaknesses: Can seem distant and unapproachable.  Obsessively tidy.  Can be rigid and inflexible on certain issues.

Likes: His husband and daughter, his adopted family in the desert, teaching students, meditating, going out to nightclubs with Nye.

Dislikes: Untidiness, lateness, prejudice and intolerance.

Character race: A minor god. (Basically a powerful, mortal sorcerer.)

Character appearance: Over six feet tall, muscular, wears a lot of black clothes. He has black hair that tends to fall over his clear-blue eyes. Has pale skin and a handsome, young face. Early twenties. On his back are the tiniest of stubs where his wings used to be before they were cut off.

Character personality: Can be abrasive to those he sees as a threat to his sister. Obsessed with keeping Rachel safe. He is wickedly sarcastic and rarely says anything nice about people. He doesn't like people to die and can have a bit of a soft spot for lost causes.

Family: His parents, Mimi and Philip Andric, were killed. Ewan has a younger sister, Rachel, and in his Morpheus persona, his father is likewise deceased.

Strengths: Strong, doesn't give up, skilled with his Morpheus powers, would die for people he cares about.

Weaknesses: Stubborn, doesn't get along well with other people, dislikes anyone to get close to Rachel.

Likes: Spending time with his chosen friends, working towards a cause, his sister.

Dislikes: People who get too close to Rachel, Guy of Gisborne, anything that threatens the people he cares about.

Character personality: Bubbly, talkative and friendly, but also secretive.  Talks about trivial things and makes silly jokes to avoid giving away any personal details.  Has a high level of natural intelligence despite his lack of any formal education.  Teaches himself about topics which interest him.

Family: Unknown.  He spent the first five years of his life in an orphanage in a slum district of Urlantium, a large city in Central Varathusia.

Strengths: Quick learner, picks things up easily.  Good memory, only needs to see something once to retain it.  Has street-fighting skills but relies mainly on speed and evasion tactics to make up for his lack of physical strength. Learned pick-pocketing and lock-picking whilst living rough on the streets. Self-taught expert at making and setting off explosive devices.

Weaknesses: Not physically strong.  Has no regard for his personal safety and can also put others at risk with his reckless behaviour.

Medium height, slender build, light brown skin.  Dark brown shoulder-length hair, usually worn in elegant styles.  Very fashion-conscious, likes to wear the latest styles.  Prefers short skirts and high heels, but in a classy, elegant way rather than a trashy way. 

Character personality: Ambitious but deeply insecure.  Always seeking approval and validation, especially from her parents and her teachers.  Friendly to a certain degree, but can be shallow and vain at times. 

Family: Unremarkable Second Echelon family with aspirations to rise to the Inner Circle.  Rita’s parents are fiercely ambitious and expect a high standard from all their children and employees.

Strengths: Driven and determined to succeed.  Good social skills, knows how to read people.  Physically stronger than she looks, due to her artificial crystal bonds. 

Weaknesses: Impatient, wants to be an expert at everything without having to train and practise.  Very needy, constantly craving attention and validation.  Can be sulky when she doesn’t get her own way.  Not very academically inclined and can be lazy at times.  Becomes frustrated easily.

Likes: The idea of being a sorceress, being admired, socialising, fine clothes and other material possessions.  Has a serious crush on Andreas Cesario and goes out of her way to impress him.
