Cultural Information: Serd-Mages
The serd-mages take their name from the Varagan street slang word sersedrei, meaning “rascal” or “rebel”, depending on context.
The movement began as a counter-culture in Varah and Par-Varah communities, based on the principle that instruction in sorcery skills should be available to all those with crystal bonds or Aureant senses, regardless of their social status, racial origins or financial status.
It is credited to have started in the holy city of Dardenay in Southern Varathusia, when priests and priestesses on outreach duty decided to start teaching basic sorcery skills to young disadvantaged adepts. The movement grew and spread around many other cities on mainland Varathusia.
