In the modern era, Iraevesh, Goddess of Justice, is worshipped by the Carpathian population of the planet Varathusia.  However, worship of her pre-dates the formation of the Carpathian Movement.  The original Varahs held her in high regard and worshipped her alongside Varagord, God of Wisdom.

Iraevesh is often depicted in paintings and statues as a winged woman.  There are variants on the theme, including a reptilian version of her.  All iconic representations contain the same two artefacts — the Book of Truth and the Blade of Justice.  Most often the figure of the Goddess is shown carrying them, but in some instances, they may be woven into her clothing or tattooed on her skin.

In bygone eras, the guilt or innocence of a person charged of a crime was determined by having them place their hand inside a jar and select a stone.  The jar would be empty until the person placed their hand inside.  The Goddess would then scan their thoughts in order to determine their guilt or innocence.  If they had committed the crime, she would materialise a red stone in the person's hand.  If they turned out to be innocent, the stone would be white.

Varathusian judicial procedures have changed and evolved since those eras but Iraevesh still has the final say in matters of law if the Varah Courts or the Carpathian Meherq cannot reach a conclusive verdict. (See separate entry for Meherq)

Priests and priestesses of the Order of Iraevesh have a flair for the dramatic.  Some of them conduct their worship services in ancient High Carpathian dialects.  Unlike many of the other religious orders, they do not shave their heads or display other signs of humility.  They enjoy similar privileges to Carpathian Lords and Ladies and they often do other work for their own families in addition to their priestly duties.
